Information Technology Law

Information technology can be briefly defined as the outcomes obtained through the combined use of information and technology. More broadly, it can be described as a science that deals with communication in technical, economic, and social fields, particularly involving the systematic processing of information through electronic devices.

In other words, it is also defined as the science concerned with the processing of all kinds of data and information using electronic computing tools and the techniques for evaluating them.

Information Technology Law can be defined as a branch of law that emerged to prevent the misuse of information and technology that may harm individuals and to resolve disputes arising from the use of information systems. There are many terms used interchangeably with the concept of Information Technology Law, such as Internet Law, Cyber Law, Web Law, Technology Law, and so on.

By its nature, Information Technology Law is connected to many branches of law. The protection and use of software, as well as related infringements and contracts, are linked to both Information Technology Law and Intellectual Property Law. Matters such as the privacy of private life, crimes committed against personal data, offenses committed via information systems, and crimes involving bank or credit cards fall within the scope of Criminal Law.
